Agriculture In India

Micro land holdings plague farming in India. This limits any farmer’s scope to adopt mixed farming or shift to growing multiple crops simultaneously. In recent years, the Government is being proactive in designing the right platform. Necessary measures to reduce the burden of informal setup in agro and allied services are being rolled out.

One such effort is encouraging Farmer Producer Organizations across the country. That us to say, this is empowering and benefitting the farming community at large.

Measures to cater to the larger farming community is of utmost necessity. Given the diverse needs of farming in India, this is a necessity. As a result, one positive amendment of the existing policy or introduction of fresh clauses to benefit the growing aspirations may hamper farm’s productivity in the longer run.

For instance, increased subsidy on chemical fertilizer purchases by the farmer groups may deteriorate the soil health in the long run which as well, worsens the cash flow a farmer may have to budget y-o-y. In this direction, introduced technology-driven aids like the soil testing centers across the country have made a considerable impact on the farmer’s choice of crop, cropping pattern, level of mechanization and irrigation solutions.
